Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation

The Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation (IRSNC) is a professional institution dedicated to nature conservation of the most endangered areas and species in the country, established on the basis of the Nature Conservation Act. Seven regional units ensure quality coverage of Slovenia. A central unit provides internal and external coordination and vision. Through the Nature Conservation Guidelines, the Institute influences spatial planning, management and the use of natural resources. We provide professional opinions and guidance on the acceptability of interventions into nature and co-operate in the management of protected areas. We monitor the status of nature, take care of species protection and its habitats and natural values.

IRSNC provides education about coexistence of nature and people. We prepare publications, take part in educational programmes for all ages, and implement activities for improving the state of nature. We are developing a strong international network with which we are strengthening the professional work of the Institute and enlarging our role and recognisability at home and abroad. The results of our work and our knowledge are presented at domestic and international conferences or congresses.
