Technical malfunction of two lynx telemetry collars

Posted - Feb 9, 2022

We are closely monitoring all translocated lynxes with the help of telemetry collars. However, sometimes the equipment does not work as it is supposed to. In December, we noticed, that the batteries of telemetry collars of Tris and Lenka, two lynxes translocated to the Alpine region, are losing power and later on stopped working. The last data we have received from their collars were in the middle of December. Tris and Lenka share a territory in the area of Pokljuka, the Radovna valley and the Mežakla plateau. In the coming months we will try to track down the lynxes with the help of snow tracking and photo traps, capture them, and change their collars. According to camera trapping and snow tracking data, three lynxes released in Pokljuka area are still present on their territories.
