In July 2017, near the village Bribir in the Primorsko-Goranska county of Croatia, a starved lynx kitten was found. He weighted 1.8 kg and was named Martin by the saint of that region. Since the possibility of survival in nature for such a young lynx without its mother was minimal, he spent the next 3 months at the Zagreb ZOO, and then the rehabilitation continued at the Risnjak National Park. By the end of January 2018, Martin was collared and released back to nature. By following his movements through the GPS collar, we know that he established his territory in the Gorski Kotar region and is now moving its boundaries to Slovenia.
We are happy that the members of the Croatian LIFE Lynx team participated in Martin’s return to nature.
