First educational seminar for gamekeepers

Posted - May 23, 2019

On Tuesday, 16. April 2019, 130 gamekeepers attended an educational seminar, organised by the Hunters Association of Slovenia in Celje. We presented LIFE Lynx project, ecology, biology, the history of the lynx population in Slovenia, the condition of the Dinaric-Southeasteren lynx population nowadays and monitoring methods.

To effectively detect and prevent the illegal killing of wildlife, it is essential to educate and cooperate with hunters and gamekeepers, who are usually the first to discover such actions on the field and report to the police. We informed them that during the three-day professional educational meeting, we trained 25 specialized police officers that have the appropriate knowledge to detect and act in cases of the illegal killing of wildlife. For the first time, we have presented part of the protocol for hunters and gamekeepers that will be helpful for detecting and taking appropriate action in cases of illegal killing of wildlife.
