A volunteer’s contribution to LIFE Lynx

Posted - Oct 20, 2023

Volunteers and interns are very valuable part of the LIFE Lynx team. Besides working with students and volunteers from our own countries, we are keen on cooperating with students from other countries, to share our expertise and knowledge outside of country borders of LIFE Lynx partner countries.

During the last year, Beatrice Caimi, student from the University of Milano, joined Croatian LIFE Lynx team and used monitoring data to prepare her master thesis entitled “Monitoring of Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) population in Croatia during the season 2022/2023″.

Beatrice described her experience: “During the eight months spent at the University of Zagreb, I had the great opportunity to acquire a wealth of knowledge and skills related to the monitoring of the Eurasian lynx population. I had the possibility to participate in various field activities, specifically related to the placement and management of camera traps and data collection, including biological samples such as lynx hair. Moreover, I am very grateful to the Croatian LIFE Lynx team, which also allowed me to participate in activities not directly related to my thesis project: the release of lynx Kras in the Plitvice Lakes National Park was a very emotional moment that enriched me from all perspectives. I will carry this amazing journey with me forever.”
