Slovenia adopted new strategic documents for protecting lynx in 2024-2033

Posted - Nov 22, 2024

Coherent management response is crucial for long-term conservation of Dinaric-SE Alpine lynx population. Slovenia is continuing their vision to conserve lynx for future generations, by adopting Strategy and Action Plan for Conservation and sustainable management of Eurasian Lynx for the Period 2024-2033, where concrete actions are defined.

The conservation objectives of the Strategy are:

  • A genetically stable and viable population, managed at population level – i.e. in cooperation with neighboring countries;
  • The presence of lynx with regular reproductions throughout the species-suitable area of Slovenia, limiting and reducing fragmentation of lynx habitat and ensuring a sufficient prey base;
  • Acceptability of lynx presence (maintenance of tolerance) for different land users, in particular agriculture, hunting, infrastructure and energy.

The newly adopted strategic documents were developed in the scope if the LIFE Lynx project, and are based on the Common Guidelines for Dinaric – SE Alpine Population-level Lynx Management, including experiences gained experiences gained over the course of the LIFE Lynx project.

The documents  will be available on the webpage of the Ministry for Natural resources and Spatial Planning.
