In the last week, primary school students from the Community of schools of the Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve have submitted name proposals for the first lynx to be translocated to Gorenjska.
120 names proposed by students from 17 primary schools were scored by an expert committee consisting of project ambassador Anže Kopitar, actor Nik Škrlec, LIFE NATURAVIVA project coordinator Maja Opalički Slabe, Miha Marolt from Triglav national park and ambassador of Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve and principal of Podbrdo Primary School Polona Kenda. Additional points were given to names associated with the forest, the Alps or mountains, cats or lynxes, and names that are locally specific.
An expert committee selected the top ten names; Trin, Julijan, Tris, Julij, Kugy, Alpi, Brin, Blisk, Anže, Rožle, and now the students will vote again and choose the winner.
Meanwhile, the LIFE Lynx and Triglav National Park teams are already looking forward to the final name!
