Lubomir – adult male lynx captured in Slovakia

Posted - Apr 22, 2022

We have a new lynx in our translocation crew!

Adult male (age 5 – 7 years) was captured in Slovakia and will be released in Croatia. Capturing was organized by the Slovak LIFE Lynx team in cooperation with Lesy SR, Forest Entreprise Východ and Forest district Betliar, as well as the State Nature Conservation of SR. Lynx was captured at Betliar Forest district, where 30 years ago lynxes were captured for the historical reintroduction programmes in the Western and Central Europe.

After the first medical examinations lynx was transported to the quarantine at the Bojnice National Zoo and will stay there until all veterinary requirements are fulfilled.

The lynx was named Lubomir, after Lubomír Arvay, who also took part in the historical captures/reintroductions (as a young man at the time) and now he significantly helped the Slovak LIFE Lynx team in the lynx‘s capture.
